Hans-Dieter has a long standing reputation for his elegant and exciting performances and recordings on baroque flute, recorder, and modern flute. He has appeared in a great number of Australia’s prime musical events and Festivals, and as a guest artist with many of this country’s foremost Early Music Ensembles and Orchestras. He has been principal flute in the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and regular guest artist with Salut! Baroque. His CD of Telemann’s ‘Sonate Metodiche’ has gained critical acclaim in Australia and overseas and was ‘Editor’s Choice’ of ‘Soundscapes’ magazine. He has also worked as an orchestral and choral conductor, for scenic productions of Handel oratorios in Canberra, as well as with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, the Sydney Chamber Choir, ACO Voices, The Australian Brandenburg Choir and the Melbourne Collegium Baroque Orchestra, amongst others. On several previous occasions, Hans-Dieter has collaborated with Dr. Jan Stockigt, presenting her discoveries of music by J.D.Zelenka during the Melbourne International Festival of Organ and Harpsichord and with the Sydney Chamber Choir, and recently conducted the Australian Premiere of Vivaldi’s rediscovered Dixit Dominus setting. Apart from his performing career, Hans-Dieter has been a dedicated teacher and tutor at tertiary and secondary institutions, including The Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne and Sydney Universities, The Universities of NSW and Western Sydney, Newcastle University, Sydney Grammar School, and at various Festivals and Summer Schools. He is also the editor of the successful Flute Series 1 Books for the AMEB. For several years running, he conducted flute-masterclasses at the reputable Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany. Hans-Dieter regularly performs in Europe, to critical acclaim. His engagements have included the EXPO 2000 cultural program and the international festival ‘Niedersächsische Musiktage’, as well as many chambermusic and solo recitals with his collegues of the Ensemble ‘Hannover Fancy’. His flute playing career currently interrupted by focal dystonia, Hans-Dieter has renewed his interest in the recorder. He currently looks after a highly respected class at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
